White Supremacy and Christian Missions: The Jarring Overlap Between White Power and the Biblical Mandate to Preach the Gospel
With the best of intentions, many young adults pursue careers engaging in humanitarian and/or evangelistic endeavors either overseas or locally. However, without a deep understanding of systemic racism and White Supremacy, those with hopes of bringing positive change to the world at-large often further complicate already complex systemic immoralities, and widen the disparity between those who identify as White, from those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour (BIPOC). It cannot and must not be ignored that Christian missions, specifically, and White Supremacy are almost completely inseparable, which can be noted in deep-seated Christian doctrines infused into colonial excursions, such as the Doctrine of Discovery and Manifest Destiny, as well as subtle racist ideologies in present-day missions. The Doctrine of Discovery One of the earliest historical connections between Christianity and White Supremacy can be dated back to what is now known as the Doctrine of Discover
